First it needs to be stated that I have been a Member of AARP (U.S) since 2004.  Secondly CARP is not affiliated with AARP. I have checked both websites and the only reference to CARP on the AARP site is…..
CARP stands for Canadian Association of Retired Persons. However, the name no longer describes CARP s membership who are 50 years or older, retired or not. Hence the new descriptor, Canada s Association for the Fifty-Plus. CARP remains, the rest has been retired.
There are many reasons to join AARP. For a mere $16.00 per year one receives an excellent bi-monthly magazine and a monthly bulletin. Well the first difference will be apparent when you compare the AARP website with the CARP website. The AARP is far more professional and has much more content (personal opinion). CARP is $14.95 per year, $29.95 per year if you also want to subscribe to Zoomer Magazine jogging stroller with travel system (9 issues per year). CARP offers a number of e-Newsletters but you don't have to be a CARP Member to sign up for these. Discounts, CARP lists a number of discounts under the Benefits Tab on their website.  I found discounts listed for Avis and Budget car rentals, Delta, EconoLodge, jogging stroller with travel system Day's Inn, Comfort, Comfort Suites, Clarion and Chateau Beauvalle hotels also offer discounts. I could not find any restaurants, drug stores or other retail discounts for CARP. If you select the Seniors Rate the hotel may or may not accept the CARP card.
For my money and based on my past experience with AARP they are the hands down winners here. Better website and articles, including Canadian specific stories, a great monthly magazine and more discounts that you can use on an average trip.
