This is a trip that I took in 2009 with my daughter who was 15 years old at the time.  This is a very easy do-it-yourself trip due to the easy accessibility of public transportation. one way airline ticket We started in London, but this trip could be done in reverse if you find that airfares are cheaper from your originating city.  I know it is heavy on "girly" things to do, but it was perfect for us.  My daughter got to visit some of the great churches and museums of two of the best cities in the world.  This trip was also cheap compared to what one might expect since my companion was under 18 at the time, and we stayed at clean, one way airline ticket safe boutique hotels that had local character which also had twin beds.  Using public transportation was also easy and cheap.  You will notice a lack of things that we did at night since we were out early in the mornings, and there is always one way airline ticket a concern for safety when you are 2 women travelling alone.  However, we never felt threatened, but also did not get into any ill-advised situations.  Finally, buy a good guide book such at Frommer's or Rick Steves to get the most of your vacation.

Oyster Card:   You can buy this card pre-loaded with money prior to your visit or when you arrive and the adult card never expires.  You can use this pass on buses and the subway at any time including to and from Heathrow and including the Express train.  You can purchase a student pass for children that allows discounted or free travel depending on the child's age.  Purchase the pass prior to leaving home, but it must be picked up upon arrival at a pre-determined pick-up location.  Just apply on line and up load a photo of your child.   The tube is very easy to use, clean and safe.
Cash:   The best way to obtain one way airline ticket cash in foreign countries is through an ATM.  Traveler's checks are a hassle to obtain and use and there is a fee to convert to the currency.  Be sure to call your bank to let them know when and where you are traveling prior to leaving home.  Most banking institutions charge a very small fee for ATM use in foreign countries, but this fee is small to the currency conversion fees charged by credit cards or banks.  Use a credit card whenever possible and be sure that there are no charges for foreign transactions.  Again, call the institution prior to leaving home in order to be sure you won't have problems while traveling.  I recommend Capital One credit cards since there is currently no fee for foreign transactions.
We stayed at the Hotel Euro and I wrote a review on 8-26-09 for tripadvior.com.  This hotel was in an ideal location one way airline ticket to the subways and Pancras station.  There are many hotels on this same street that looked very similar, so you might investigate these also.  This hotel had hot breakfast that was served to you included which for me is always a plus since it saves time and money.  There are several nice restaurants and a small mall very close to here and the closest tourist attraction is the British Museum.  Contact them ahead of time and they might be able to have a room ready for an early arrival.
Pick-up tickets from ATM ticket pickup with credit card for the London Eye and a river cruise.  Order these tickets prior to leaving home and I recommend the fast pass since there seems to always be a line for the Eye.
Our trip was in August when Buckingham Palace is open to the public.  Purchase tickets for the various tours prior to leaving home.  This is a once in a lifetime experience, so I highly recommend trying to time a trip around this attraction.  (Alternatively, visit Kensington Palace by taking the Piccadilly line from Russell Square to S. Kensington and then the  Circle or District line to High St. Kensington)
Buy your tickets prior to leaving home. The goal here is to arrive right at opening time which is either 9AM or 10AM.  Try to make this visit on a 9AM day, then ignore the Beefeater one way airline ticket tour and walk right to the Crown Jewels location.  Then, backtrack for the tour or tour the Tower of London yourself.  There is an adequate cafeteria to eat at in the Tower if needed.
We saw Romeo and Juliet, but theplays change.  This is a unique theater based on theaters during Shakespeare's time and really fun to do.  Purchase tickets prior to leaving home.  There are also tours of the theater available, but we found that attending the play gave you a good feel for the place.

There is a good audio tour and you need to purchase this for children.  Tour the palace and gardens, then think about going to Marie-Antoinette's estate, but it is a long walk.  There are trams you can also take around.
This is an elegant, gourmet dinner cruise down the Seine with typical French foods that we took at sunset.  It departs one way airline ticket close to the Eiffel tower and goes down to Notre Dame Cathedral and back.  Check out the Eiffel tower at night as you walk back to the hotel.  Your last night in Paris!
