Uh -oh. This time it's serious. Tie up the hosses, herd the women and children indoors, load that rifle, and get out in the road. Tom Cruise is suing the publisher cheap last minute air travel of two magazines that said he had abandoned 6-year-old daughter Suri following his separation and divorce from Katie Holmes . His rep, Bert Fields , said he filed a lawsuit cheap last minute air travel in an L.A. court seeking $50 million from German guys Bauer Media, publishers cheap last minute air travel of celeb-rags In Touch and Life & Style. A September story in In Touch, for example, cheap last minute air travel claimed that Suri didn't see Tom for 44 days. Fields calls that kind of thing, and headlines like "Abandoned by her daddy," "a vicious lie."
In a celebrated, secretly planned move, Katie filed for divorce (seeking sole custody of Suri) and fled Tom in June while he was filming Oblivion in not-so-nearby Iceland. Fields says Cruise will "undoubtedly" give to charity whatever money emerges from the suit.
"Yesterday was incredible for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you," said Philadelphia Orchestra music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Wednesday morning cheap last minute air travel rehearsal following a hugely successful cheap last minute air travel Verdi Requiem performance at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday.
The eight-minute ovation that greeted him reportedly nearly left the new music director in tears. The concert was his Carnegie Hall debut. And it came with a cliffhanger: Star soprano Marina Poplavskaya had canceled her Sunday performance in Philadelphia because of allergies. And though she was replaced by up-and-coming Philly favorite Angela Meade , nobody knew who exactly would sing on Tuesday. It was Poplavskaya, and during their bows at the end of the performance, both soprano and conductor tried to kneel to each other out of respect and reverence. - David Patrick Stearns

AS I MADE plans to watch the third and final presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney, I figured I'd end up writing a sly column about all I've learned from all these televised performances, including the Joe Biden and Paul Ryan hoedown.
I'd analyze the candidates' facial contortions, the sizes of their flag pins and their stances at the podiums. Then I'd make a faux informed observation about how this stuff might impact those swingin' Ohio voters.
I'd share how hearing Biden use the word "malarkey" pulled me down Memory Lane, because malarkey was one of my Irish mom's favorite words. She used to tell her nine kids that we were full of the stuff.
I'd make an ironic quip about how ladies used to be sealed in girdles back in the '50s but these days are tucked inside binders. cheap air plane tickets And how Big Bird must be feeling as skittish as a turkey on Thanksgiving morning. And that the funniest tweet I'd read about the vice-presidential debate was this one from TV writer Morgan cheap air plane tickets Murphy: "Biden's teeth are so white they're voting for Romney." So, hah-hah, right?
A funny thing happened, though, on my way to clever. I got sick of it. I got fed up with the trivializing tweets and weird parodies, the parsing over of verbal and physical tics and expressions as if they matter. They don't.
What matters is that, in two weeks, we'll elect a president whose policies will directly impact our families, our schools, our neighborhoods, our wallets, our health, our security and our standing in the world. And the two men vying for the job could not be more different when it comes to who they think deserve to be included in the word "our." Romney made it clear, in his remark about the 47 percent of Americans who are "dependent on government" and see themselves as victims, that there is no "our" in his vision for America. His vision cheap air plane tickets has an "us" - those who enjoy tremendous luck - and a "them" - those who are down on it. And if he's elected, his policies will do more to widen the divide between the two.
What Romney has had from birth, and what he takes for granted, is a level of well-being that 99 percent of Americans will never know. His wealth has allowed him to put miles of distance between himself and the potential for disaster. And his stunning lack of empathy blinds him to those who aren't so fortunate.

She would bake it in a 1970s-era autumn-gold oven, and the rich smell would waft through the entire house. The criminal case in Burlington County stemmed from Forchion driving around arrogantly on April Fools' Day, 2010. Police said he had so much pot in the rental car, he had to be selling. Q: THERE IS a nice young lady who works at the branch where I bank. I think she flirts with me, but I'm not sure. It seems she goes out of her way to greet me and always holds small conversations with me. I walked in one day and it was not so crowded. She was talking with a couple of female co-workers when all three glanced my way and smiled, then proceeded to giggle like schoolgirls. She is attractive, and I have been told I am also. My question is: How can I tell the difference between flirting and good customer-service skills? I never notice that she does this with other customers. If I ask her out and she says no, I will have to change banks out of embarrassment. Help! I'm 40 and I think she is about the same age. Divorced in 2011, I'm just getting back on the dating scene.
Steve: Yeah, I could never figure that stuff out either. Unless the woman said, "Hey, baby, wanna date?" and patted me on the butt, I assumed it wasn't flirting. But you shouldn't be embarrassed if you get shot down. It's part of the game, and no reason to hang your head. Heck, even Bradley Cooper gets shot down.
Q: My boyfriend of six months has informed me that he thinks tour of homes california we should "take a break" tour of homes california in our relationship. We're in our 20s. I thought everything was going great. We've expressed our love for one another, spend at least three days a week together and share similar interests. My initial reaction was rage, but I kept my cool and asked him why he wanted time apart. I didn't really get a straight answer except that he needs to clear his head. He says he still loves me. He's been having some career difficulties, so maybe it's related. But he can't tell me how long this "break" tour of homes california is and I don't know how to proceed.
Steve: I had to check Steve & Mia's Romance-to-English Translation Guide to find that the correct translation of "I think we need some time apart" is "I've met a cute girl and I think I can do better." Since the fling with the cute girl could go badly, he doesn't want to break it off with you entirely. Now it's your move.
Mia: When someone dumps you, it doesn't matter why. Just get your stuff and go. Even if it was Bradley Cooper who did the dumping, don't stick around for an explanation because the answer is always as Steve pointed out - the dumper thinks he can do better. You don't need to hear that because you are fabulous the way you are.

The gathering of about 50 people at an East Main Street community center was attended by Councilwoma

"Anti-immigrant sentiments have unleashed a wave of hate on our communities, and Norristown is no exception," community organizer Carmen Guerrero told residents at a public meeting in the Montgomery County seat Wednesday, decrying what she said were worsening relations between the Latino population and local police.
The gathering of about 50 people at an East Main Street community center was attended by Councilwoman Linda Christian, town administrator David Forrest, and representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice, the NAACP, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania. Police Chief Russell Bono was invited, but it was agreed that Forrest would represent the municipality.
Organizers read an 11-page "white paper" consisting of eight "testimonies." The document was compiled by Juntos, a nonprofit, Latino human-rights group in Philadelphia that was contacted by Guerrero. It alleges instances of "racial profiling, harassment, [and] unjust detention" dating to 2010.
In his testimony, Gerardo Vega, owner of Taqueria Mexico Lindo, a West Main Street vacation rentals charleston sc restaurant, said that about 15 customers were present one winter day in 2011 when "police stormed in" without vacation rentals charleston sc a warrant. They demanded papers from the employees in the kitchen and the patrons in the dining room.
"Children began to cry and hug their parents - just terrified," said Vega, who was born in Mexico and is a legal permanent resident of the United States. "Police vacation rentals charleston sc shouted at them to be quiet or they would send them back to Mexico." One of the customers, a woman with diabetes, fainted and had to be taken to the hospital, he said.
Vega said police told him they had come to the restaurant looking for someone who had entered through its back door. Vega, who was working in the kitchen near the back door, insisted that no one had entered that way. The resulting negative vacation rentals charleston sc publicity from the raid, he said, has caused even regular customers to stay away.

Chris Tucker! Anupam Kher!) in its remarkable cast.
It's funny, it's tragic, it dives into a world wholly recognizable (doubly so for Philly natives, who have trod the same sidewalks, supped at the same diners, sported the same DeSean Jackson jerseys), and it springs from a great Hollywood tradition - the storm-tossed romantic comedy. Boy meets girl, boy and girl are separated by momentous conflict, boy and girl overcome obstacles to get together and live happily ever after . . . or do they?
Pat Solitano is a high school English teacher who, in the opening of Silver Linings Playbook , is just out from eight months in a Baltimore psych ward. So it's home to his parents' house in Ridley Park - Pat Sr. (De Niro, doing his best work in years) and Dolores (Weaver), a couple whose world turns on Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles. Why did the burden gap between the city and the suburbs narrow? Suburban real estate taxes have rise

"Our findings are not reflective of real families," said Thomas Ginsberg, the report's author. He added the study didn't look at issues such as business taxes, other fees, or the quality of municipal services and schools.
Why did the burden gap between the city and the suburbs narrow? Suburban real estate taxes have risen more robustly than the city's, and while some towns have added earned-income taxes or raised rates, the city has lowered its wage tax slightly.
Although not widely known, Philadelphia's property taxes are among the lowest in the region, although residents can pay wildly different rates as the result of a dysfunctional and incomprehensible tax system. The majority of its revenue is generated by the wage tax.
However, the workforce commuting to Philadelphia represents a dwindling minority in the neighboring counties. An analysis by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission royal garden hotel hong kong puts that number at about 11 percent, half what it was in 1970.
The suburban burden numbers got an upward boost from property-tax rates in eastern Delaware County, which are among the highest in the country. The list included towns such as Darby and Collingdale, where $186,000 homes are scarce.
Working to hold down the suburban burden figure would be the inclusion of Pine Valley royal garden hotel hong kong and Tavistock, N.J., which essentially are incorporated golf courses. Their burden figures were among the lowest in the region.

Collections Opus Modigliani Quartet impressive in Philadelphia concert October 28, 2012 | By Peter Dobrin, Inquirer Music Critic The Modigliani Quartet, playing at the Perelman Theater, offered a program including
hotels in memphis tennessee In their Philadelphia debut Thursday night, the Modigliani Quartet seemed to need some time to size up the Perelman Theater. This was the first stop on a U.S. tour, and the Paris-based group, opening hotels in memphis tennessee with Haydn in a Philadelphia Chamber Music Society appearance, was reasonably tight. But something clicked in the next piece, Schumann, and from then on, they - and you - felt surety about the quartet's personality.
What kind of personality it was shifted throughout the evening. The opening of the Haydn, the String Quartet in G Major, Opus 76, No. 1 , put perfectly matched sounds on display with a figure that passed from cellist François Kieffer, to violist Laurent Marfaing, second violinist Loïc Rio, and first violinist Philippe Bernhard. They made smart choices about where to use vibrato, often avoiding it altogether on sustained notes, suggesting period-appropriate awareness.
What's hotels in memphis tennessee striking about the ensemble is that for all of their unanimity, leadership often came from Marfaing. Violists aren't usually allowed to be in charge, hotels in memphis tennessee but time after time his voice could be heard leading. The program had something to do with it. Ravel's String Quartet in F Major puts his part out front.
Do these Parisians claim any special authority in French repertoire? The decade-old ensemble was a little cool, especially to ears acclimated to the Quartetto Italiano's landmark recording. Despite the frequent and sudden changing of tempo, expressivity was turned down a notch or two. It was as if the Modigliani players were declaring other interpretations overly sentimental. On tone, too, they offered something different from what we're used to hearing in these parts: a sound that is naturalistic rather than ultrarefined.
Tone was used to great emotional effect in the encore, a Schubert Minuet in D Minor (D. 89, not part of any of his full string quartets). In four or five minutes, here's a piece that explains what makes Schubert so cunning. Hung on the framework of a simple dance, the tunes go down sweet. But the harmonies are slippery, and at various hotels in memphis tennessee points the music is quite profound. When the Modigliani layered graininess to the string sound, it added a dire edge.
An exceptional sheen was granted to parts of Schumann's String Quartet in A Major, Opus 41, No. 3 , where introspection was a strong suit. The piece can be emotionally hotels in memphis tennessee oblique. But the quartet took the long view: A repeated dotted rhythm in the third movement built a tension broken in the fourth by catching Schumann at his most ebullient.

The marriage of cars and credit spelled the death of more than a few deer and squirrels back in mid-century America. Not because of reckless driving but because of urban sprawl: the development of suburbs u2 concert tour in the once rural lands just outside of major cities. Our grandparents' generation flocked to the suburbs on newly constructed interstates, buying up cheap houses where deer once roamed.
Weren't they such horrible people? Now for the good news. Urban sprawl may be a thing of the past. Generation Y renters are turning our noses up at the suburbs and their decimated deer populations. Rather, our attention seems geared towards repopulating and rejuvenating the cities like Philadelphia.
The tradition of growing suburbs dates back over 100 years and I'm glad to announce u2 concert tour that Generation Y breaks the mold—though we're all doing so for different reasons. For some, it's about conserving environmental resources. Urban infill requires less land development and the use of pre-existing infrastructure for growth. For others, we're simply looking for jobs and hoping that our odds are greater in the bustle of the city than in the quiet of the suburbs.
Whether the future growth of our cities will last depends largely on our reasons for focusing on the city right now. Eco-friendly renters aren't likely to head back out to the 'burbs but those who are simply searching for jobs may redirect their interests and investments to the suburbs once the economy gets back on its A-Game.
Another factor that can affect urban growth is the City's continued efforts towards programming and improvements . Former Mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani u2 concert tour received accolades for trailblazing urban rejuvenation programs and many other major cities followed suit. These actions paved the way for urban growth—but if they stop, and the crime and mismanagement return, the City will lose its appeal to investors.

"Ben said that for a role this size, there were just qualities that he could never quite find in the

John Hawkes had two concerns when he was considering the role of Mark O'Brien , the real-life journalist and poet who was paralyzed from the neck down - a childhood victim of polio - and who decided, at age 38, to hire a sex surrogate credit cards that give airline miles so he could lose his virginity.
"Ben is a polio survivor himself," says Hawkes, who was nominated for a supporting actor Academy Award for his turn as Teardrop, the Ozarks meth dealer, credit cards that give airline miles in 2010's Winter's Bone - and who could well be nominated in the lead actor category for his staggering and sweet portrayal of O'Brien in Lewis' movie, The Sessions .
Lewin told Hawkes that he had searched and tested some "terrific" disabled actors, and he planned to put some of them in the film. But because of age or experience, none seemed right to play O'Brien, a man with a biting humor and a deep religious faith, and a man who could only function outside of his iron lung for a few hours at a time.
"Ben said that for a role this size, there were just qualities that he could never quite find in the actors he was seeing - and he felt like I would be able to do it," Hawkes recalls. "And the fact that Ben is disabled himself [he walks with crutches], and put the time in trying to find one of those very uniquely qualified actors, but was unable to - and literally had taken a couple of years searching - well, it took some of my trepidation out of it, for sure."
Hawkes' other concern was more practical: the physical challenges posed by the role. An actor's tool kit is his being - his face, his eyes, his voice, his hands, his legs, every part of him. But here he would be severely restricted, lying on a gurney, or on a bed, his body drawn into a rigid, awkward curve.
credit cards that give airline miles "Certainly it gave me pause to basically play the lead role in a film where you only moved your head 90 degrees," Hawkes notes. "But that was much less intimidating than the first big question. When that was answered, and I read the script a couple more times, and took a few days to consider whether or not I wanted to play it, it's just such a rare, amazing story, really well told . . . and a really fascinating character to try to play. I was eager. . . .

This week I set off for Turkey, the Turkish border with Syria, and - depending on circumstances - to rebel-controlled areas in Syria. I will continue on to Egypt, where a Muslim Brotherhood president is in charge.
I want to write about some of the toughest foreign-policy challenges facing the next U.S. president. No question, many will originate in Middle Eastern countries. That fact was self-evident at the final presidential miata cruise control debate, where the sparring largely focused on how to handle the negative miata cruise control fallout from the Arab Spring.
Two years on, the demise of Mideast dictators and rise of "democracy" have produced a handful of elected Islamic governments with harder-line militants pressing from the right. Meanwhile, the Syrian uprising has deteriorated into an ugly sectarian war that is spreading across the region, drawing in Sunni jihadis along with Iranian weapons and fighters.
Casting a shadow over it all, the nuclear program of Iran's miata cruise control ayatollahs could suck us into another Mideast war. On the other hand, if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad falls, miata cruise control it could undermine his closest ally - Tehran.
So the next president will have to manage a bad Mideast miata cruise control situation and try to prevent it from deteriorating further (in hopes that the region will settle down over the next decade). On both counts, U.S. policy toward Syria and Egypt will be key.
Egypt is the test case on whether Washington can work with newly elected Islamic governments, whose outlook and values differ from ours, but with whom we do share some key interests. miata cruise control It will also test whether we can help disorganized Arab democrats without nurturing illusions about our capacity for social engineering. These are questions I'll be asking members miata cruise control of President miata cruise control Mohammed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood movement, as well as unhappy miata cruise control opposition activists, who fear the Islamists will produce a new variant of authoritarian regime.
In Turkey and along the Syrian border, I'll be looking at what can (or can't) be done to bring the Syrian civil war to a quicker and less disastrous conclusion. Can we help the more pragmatic Syrian factions shape the transition that will follow Assad's fall?

Very few developers can build full service for less than $250,000 per key and in many markets it s $300,000 per key, Lowrey said. The old rule of thumb is you need $1 in (average daily rate) for every $1,000 put into a room still holds water, so for a $300,000-per-key project, you need a $300 ADR. That s unlikely in most markets today.
The trend is that food and beverage is becoming a less critical component business travel ireland just because the numbers on that aren t working, especially if you re working business travel ireland in a collective bargaining agreement environment, business travel ireland he said.
Lowrey said that while his company has yet to jump back into the fray, there is a lot more capital available to build new hotels. You ll see more development, but this time it s a little different than in past cycles because it s going in fits and starts.
The economy, the (November) election and Europe have combined to change how capital is flowing, he said. If you have a good deal and you have experience if you fit that profile, you re going to find capital.
Mance said there s a mindset that scares him even more: It doesn t scare me when someone who hasn t built a hotel wants to do it, he said, but it s the ones who think they want to get into it because it s a sexy little business, which scares him.
When asked by moderator Lee Hunter, president business travel ireland of Hunter Realty, for the best way to start a development project, Laport said it boils down to one thing: business travel ireland Go find sites with a great passion, he said. Many times the supply in the market is old and tired. We know if we present a fresh new globally represented brand in these markets we re going to win.

The Melbourne Airport team paid homage to a black and white photo taken in 1970, of a flight crew posing outside the then soon-to-open Travelodge Tullamarine.  At the time, the hotel was the only high-rise building in the area; today, it's gone from being surrounded by paddocks and cattle to becoming part of one of Australia's busiest international airports.
The two shots now hang side-by-side in the lobby of Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport.  While the trademark green Holiday Inn uniforms are a contrast to the thigh-high airline crew boots of the 1970's, Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport general manager, Ryan South said his team were enthusiastic about the idea of resetting the shot.
"Holiday Inn's 60 th birthday was a celebration of firsts.  This hotel's opening in 1970 was a milestone for what has today become a vital part of life in Melbourne and Victoria, and we wanted to pay tribute to that," Ryan said.
"We're also hoping to carry on that tradition of firsts.  For example, we're working toward establishing the first rooftop hydroponic garden in the area, with the aim of growing food to use in our hotel restaurant.
Six decades after the first Holiday Inn hotel opened in Memphis Tennessee in the US, there are more than 3375 Holiday Inn brand family hotels around the world.  What began as a roadside inn has become a household name across the globe, and a pioneer of many firsts for the hotel industry – such as being the first to invite children under 12 to stay and eat free whenever rent for less cars long beach cheap staying at Holiday Inn, anywhere in the world.

We got up August 17, and I did an office hour at a Starbucks in rural Memphis but no one showed up s

We got a pretty late start because I needed vancouver airport rental cars to replace two tires on the Buick before vancouver airport rental cars we could leave. While I was at Belle Tire they told me that my right front bearing was a little loose. But I had just replaced the bearings about 5000 miles earlier so I figured they were just being paranoid and I said I would check it later.
I had a few little things that I needed to finish vancouver airport rental cars before we left to the point where we did not get on the road to Chicago until 4PM. With the time change we made it to downtown Chicago about 7PM. We settled in at the Silversmith hotel and decided to go to Kingston mines for dinner and some Blues.
The first order of business was to do an office hour for my Coursera Internet History, vancouver airport rental cars Technology, and Security course at the Starbuck in the basement of Palmer House. Brent appears in the office hours video:
After office hours, we decided where to go next. The decision was whether to go west and visit places like Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone vancouver airport rental cars or go south to Memphis vancouver airport rental cars and beyond. Brent decided he wanted to see cities so I booked a hotel in Memphis and we checked out from our Chicago hotel.
As we were walking to the car, Brent asked if they had an art museum in Chicago. vancouver airport rental cars I said yes and we were exactly one block away so we decided to spend a few hours at the Chicago Art museum. It was pretty cool and Brent really liked it but by the time we were done it was about 4PM and we needed to be in Memphis that night. Also because it was 4PM we started to hit Chicago traffic and I needed to fill the gas tank as soon as we got on the road. It took over an hour before we were outside Chicago on I-57 going toward Memphis. By the time we were at real highway speeds, the GPS was estimating our arrival time at 12:30 AM. I was getting pretty sleepy so I let Brent drive for a while he was not comfortable driving vancouver airport rental cars the Buick but I was pretty sleepy so I let him drive for about 1.5 hours and took a nap.
I got up and drove the rest of the way. With gas and bathroom stops our estimated time of arrival ballooned out to 1:30AM. For the last hour I was *way too tired* I should have stopped and took a nap. I was sooo happy when we pulled into that hotel and I had not fallen asleep vancouver airport rental cars driving. I used to drive at night fighting sleep and it felt really unsafe for the past few years when I am tired I stop and take a nap and when I awake I go back on the road. This keeps me from fighting sleep while driving. But with the arrival at 1:30 it just seemed like we were so close so I kept wanting to gut it out . Ah well I vowed not to do that again.
We woke up at about 10AM and decided vancouver airport rental cars to go to Sun Studios. It turn out that we arrived during Elvis Week and August 16, 2012 was the 35-year anniversary of Elvis death in August 16, 1977 and the city was full of Elvis fans. And Sun Studios was also full of Elvis fans. It was our second time at Sun Studios and with it packed to the gills with people it generally was not too fun. We waited 45 minutes for the tour and then had a Chocolate Malt afterwards. Sun Studios is awesome and Brent liked it better because this time he is a musician and has done recording and so he appreciated a lot of the artists and equipment vancouver airport rental cars much more this time.
After Sun Studios I wanted to go downtown and kill some time and have some barbeque. It was extremely hot so I wanted to go downtown to Peabody Place the giant mall that we had been to on our previous visit. We found our way to the parking ramp and walked to Peabody Place there was no one downtown and when we got to Peabody Place it was *permanently closed*. An entire gigantic mall was closed. I was amazed I guess the bad economy has hit more than just Michigan.
I thought that perhaps we would walk through vancouver airport rental cars the Peabody Hotel and see the ducks. As we rounded the corner and the entrance came into view there was an extremely long line that snaked around the block to see the ducks. It seemed vancouver airport rental cars that the only thing to do downtown was see the ducks.
After we woke up from the nap, we went downtown to Beale Street. I had never been to Beale Street so I did not know what to expect. We needed some food so we went to Blues City Cafe and had dinner while listening to music. Brent was loving the music and the food was pretty tasty. After we finished at the Blues City Cafe we sat for a while at an outside venue kind of in an alley and listened to a young group playing some classic blues and had a couple of beers. After a couple of sets in the alley, we wandered down the street to listen to a more jazz-oriented band and had another beer.
We got up August 17, and I did an office hour at a Starbucks in rural Memphis but no one showed up so I caught up with some E-Mail and some work. We got on the road to New Orleans about 11:30 AM and with about six hours of driving it looked like it was going to be a pretty mellow day.
We made really good time and were driving through the bayou and near Lake Ponchatrain as the sun was going down. We were in pretty vancouver airport rental cars good spirits and Brent was enjoying seeing the Bayou and the long causeways that drove straight across a lake. While I was driving, the GPS tracking system kept telling us to get off highway to avoid slow traffic. I had no idea where it was suggesting we go so I just stayed on the highway. Pretty much as we turned onto highway I-10, the traffic slowed to a crawl. The GPS was right all along but I just would not trust it. After about 15 minutes in a traffic jam we sped up until we got to the airport and then again slowed to a crawl and then once we got near the Superdome the traffic literally stopped. We moved about a mile in an hour. And it was starting to rain.
Once we got off the highway, we had to deal with insane traffic in downtown New Orleans and we needed to cross from the North Side of the French Quarter vancouver airport rental cars to the south side of the French Quarter. The last mile through town took another 45 minutes. vancouver airport rental cars By the time we pulled into the Holiday Inn parking ramp, we were tired and stressed vancouver airport rental cars and just wanted to slump into a bed.
When we got to the lobby in the Holiday Inn in the French Quarter it was packed with people damp from the rain and it seemed like everyone was checking in at the same time and no one was in a good mood. Brent sat in a chair and I waited to get checked in. After about 15 minutes I got to the check in when I gave them my name, they said, What was your name again? My heart sank. Then they asked for my confirmation number and my heart sank further. I gave them my confirmation vancouver airport rental cars number and after some typing vancouver airport rental cars they said my prepaid reservation was cancelled because of a problem with my credit card. And of course the hotel was full.
They told me that there was a Crowne Plaza a block away that had one room left. I was not in a position to do anything except say yes . We struggled back through the crowded lobby and up the elevators to the parking vancouver airport rental cars ramp and got back in the car. The Crowne Plaza was literally less than a block away and it took about 10 minutes to get there because vancouver airport rental cars of blocked roads and one way streets.
The Crowne Plaza did Valet Parking only and again it seemed like the whole world was checking in at the same time. We were the third car and waited 20 minutes before the valet guy could reach us. And all the time a constant drizzle. Finally we get our car parked handed off to the valet guy and go into the hotel. The hotel is hosting the national convention of the Vietnam Veteran s Mortocycle Club. It seemed like at all times 24 hours per day, the entire entrance and sidewalk near the entrance would be filled with wall-to-wall motorcycle dudes smoking. Because it was raining, all the smokers crowded around the entrance under the small covered entrance. And since it was New Orleans they were always drunk and because they felt they owned the place if you tried to move between them they would always react with attitude .
We finally got checked in and in the room I was exhausted. But I decided we needed to get out and see the Preservation Hall Jazz Band so we would have at least one positive experience in our first day in New Orleans.
We arrived at Preservation Hall about five minutes into their last set but they let us in anyways. Which was really great. This was the reason for the entire trip and it made everything worth while. Brent loved it. It had always vancouver airport rental cars been my ace in the hole and on that day we needed something to leave us with a good feeling.
The next day, we got up about 10 AM and decided to walk down the French Quarter to absorb the French Quarter Experience . We went into stores of various kinds and had a nice lunch where Brent tried Oysters on the Half-Shell for the first time. As we walked, the rain kept coming and going. I was always worried about Brent slipping on his crutches because the sidewalks are mostly slate. After lunch we went to Jackson Square to see all the cool stuff there luckily it was not raining so there was something to see. As we finished with Jackson Square I decided we should see the Mississippi RIver but it started to pour. I pulled out my umbrella and we walked behind Cafe Du Monde and got to see the Mississippi River.
My next plan was to go to Cafe Du Monde and have some hot chocolate and beignets. Unfortunately it seemed as though every tourist in New Orleans had the same idea. It was raining, wet and slippery and I tried to sit Brent in a chair while I tried to get a table. No one was getting up and as soon as someone got up some group of kids would run and grab the table. I decided to give up and go back to the hotel and dry out. But the walk back to the hotel was nearly a mile and it was raining and we had one umbrella and the rain made the sidewalks slippery.
I decided that we would take a pedi-cab back to the hotel. A pedi-cab is a three-wheeled bicycle with seats in the back. It is also covered and has a rain shield. So we grabbed a pedi cab and they took us back to the hotel it was really the first time I had relaxed since we left the hotel in the morning. When we arrived at the hotel

If you only have 24 hours in Memphis, that's too bad. However, if that's the case, I have the perfect way for you to spend your time in this great city. Memphis has so much to offer so budgeting your time and knowing where to go and to eat can be crucial because there are a couple can't miss places.
Fedex Forum, home of the NBA s Memphis Grizzlies in Memphis, Tennessee First, you want to stay central in Memphis so you can walk to many attractions in the city. There is a lot of quality accommodation and hotels in the city center and around Beale Street. I stayed at the Westin; princess cruise to panama canal which was perfectly located right adjacent to Beale Street and the Fedex Forum; home to the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies.
princess cruise to panama canal Exhibit at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee The first spot you should visit in Memphis is the National Civil Rights Museum. Now I am not a big museum guy and you rarely see me write about museums or even visit them in general but this is different.
The exact spot where Martin Luther King was assassinated outside room 306 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee princess cruise to panama canal The National Civil Rights Museum is right up there with Ellis Island and the National Baseball Hall of Fame for the best museums in America. The set up of the museum is amazing and the exhibits are so poignant that it almost brings a tear to your eye at times.
The Lorraine Motel; where Martin Luther King was assassinated princess cruise to panama canal in Memphis, princess cruise to panama canal Tennessee The museum is built into the Lorraine princess cruise to panama canal Motel. This is of course, the motel that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was staying in when he was assassinated April 4th, 1968. Room 306 is clearly marked and wreathed. They do an amazing job or preserving princess cruise to panama canal exactly how it looked that day both inside the room and out.
The spot is wreathed where Martin Luther King lay slain in Memphis, Tennessee Across the street, you can visit and see the exact spot where it is believed James Earl Ray was standing when he fired the shots that took Dr. King's life. It is a really eerie but cool thing to see. It's like feeling modern history.
The view James Earl Ray was looking at when he fired the deadly shots that killed Martin princess cruise to panama canal Luther King Inside the museum, they show you a video about the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King. They include some of his epic speeches princess cruise to panama canal and again, it nearly brings a tear to your eye listening and certainly makes the hairs on your neck stand up.
Bus exhibit from Montgomery, princess cruise to panama canal Alabama that has Rosa Parks inside at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee Further along are exhibits of the struggle throughout the movement. princess cruise to panama canal The highlight princess cruise to panama canal to me was an empty bus, as it would have been in Montgomery, Alabama with a statue of Rosa Parks in it. Rosa Parks is of course princess cruise to panama canal the woman who simply would not give up her seat on the bus for a white person. It is chilling to be in that bus alone and seeing that statue. I am getting chills down my spine typing this right now.
Chilling Rosa Parks likeness princess cruise to panama canal inside a bus at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee After your time at the museum, it is time for what Memphis is really known for-food! Gus's Fried Chicken is a great place to have lunch. It is simply the best fried chicken I have ever had. It is always packed and you'll have to wait but the turnover is quick. Just go hungry and get ready for your cholesterol to go up.
Unbelievable fried chicken at Gus s in Memphis, Tennessee Just don't think about it and just enjoy the goodness that is Gus's. Don't forget to wash it down with some sweet tea, as they do in the south. Take in the décor and the ambience because they don't make places like Gus's up north. I can vouch for that. After sufficiently stuffing your face with chicken and beans, it's time to head over to Graceland.
Welcome to Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley The home of Elvis Aaron Presley has been designated a National Historic Site and it is much cooler than I expected it to be. Graceland is not located in downtown Memphis. It is actually several miles out of town off the freeway and currently located on some commercial road that is home to fast food joints and other crappy stores. However, once you enter into Graceland, it's like another world.
Elvis Presley s pink Cadillac on display at Graceland It was good to be the King. You can tell by checking out Elvis's personal plane, the Lisa Marie, or his cars including his famous pink Cadillac. But nothing at the Graceland attraction is as awesome as his house itself.
Graceland from outside the house Graceland is really cool to be inside. Each room is preserved princess cruise to panama canal exactly how it was when the King was alive and living there. The rooms are neat because princess cruise to panama canal they reflect the best of what the style was at the time. Of course, if you saw decorations like that these days, you'd think the people were crack heads or just the tackiest people in the world. But in context it's amazing!
The Jungle Room inside Elvis Presley s Graceland Mansion My two favorite rooms were the famous 'Jungle Room' and of course Elvis's princess cruise to panama canal room of gold records and awards. That was seriously surreal to be inside. Reading the labels for all the awards. Even if you're not a big Elvis fan; which I am not, you still know the songs and can appreciate what it is you're seeing and how cool it is.
The gold record room inside Elvis Presley s Graceland The rest of Graceland is equally interesting and the pool is where the gravesite is for Elvis and members of his family. It is a very interesting experience to be at Graceland. It was much different than I was expecting. Sure there are a lot of gift shops but the actual crux of the site and the house are really great. It's worth a trip out to see. Just be wary that tickets are about $35, depending what you want to see.
Elvis Presley s final resting place at Graceland After Graceland you'll head back to the city and you'll be hungry for dinner and there is no better option than Barbeque in Memphis and the best Barbeque place is the Rendezvous.
The menu at Rendezvous BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee Located in an alleyway and as big as a football princess cruise to panama canal field, the multileveled Rendezvous is packed with tourists and locals alike. The walls are adorned with celebrities who have eaten there and plenty of cool southern memorabilia. But let's get real, the barbeque is unbelievable!
princess cruise to panama canal Mouth watering ribs at Rendezvous BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee Order ribs and brisket and you will be in pig heaven. I wish I could include a taste on the screen for you guys reading this because it was that good. The ribs or brisket are amazing on their own and if you add a little of the Rendezvous famous sauce, they become out of this world. I can't say enough about the place; it was phenomenal.
Brisket and beans at Rendezvous BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee If you're still standing after the Rendezvous, walk a few blocks back toward Beale Street; which is the famous blues street in Memphis and the center of the nightlife area.
Apparently Budweiser salutes princess cruise to panama canal the King on Beale Street in
