Gulf News spoke to a number of car rental companies which said that many of their cars are booked this month compared to before, without citing exact figures for various reasons.
Das said uncertain conditions in other countries in the region may have contributed to the influx of tourists in the emirate this year. He added that the efforts of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in promoting the emirate overseas has also contributed to this growth overall.
"Of course there is an increase in bookings at this time compared to 2012 and 2011 and this could be because of several reasons. One is we have lowered our prices, and two is because of DSF," Omar Salahuddin, from Fast Rent a Car, said.
Salahuddin said that the peak season for the car rental industry is December to January and after Ramadan. But his office has been busier this January compared to last month because of tourists southwest airlines international ownership and shoppers this DSF.
