All the people with money live in the suburbs. The average income is $27,000 in the city but is much higher in the burbs. Anyways im sure the mariott is okay because its basically Renaissance center which is fine.
Novi is more of a commercial rome city tours area so it is more of mall type food, while good restaurants are mostly located on Orchard Lake Road which is a few miles away from Novi, and goes through Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield, and a few other cities. You can find a great restaurant on that road for any price range: it has fast food, and the one of the two only restaurants in Michigan ever to get a 5 star rating. There are a ton of hotels near the highway exit on Orchard Lake, and I believe they are all average priced. Southfield isn t to far from this area. Unless you are looking for a very nice hotel, in which case I would recommend the Hyatt, this is the place to stay.
Southfield has good and bad neighborhoods. Stay close to I696/M10 The Lodge Freeway and you should be fine there. I can t stand Novi, but it s not an unsafe area. Both areas should have plenty of restaurants, plenty of things to do, and neither is really a bad area.
I worked in Novi for years and it is quite nice, it is not extremely close to Southfield (no traffic, 20 mins) but close enough I guess. If your business is in Southfield it would be fine to stay there. There are a lot of office buildings and many nice restaurants in Southfield. I wouldn t want to live there but it is fine. Not far from Royal Oak which has a number of cool bars and restaurants also.
