Airport hotels get a pretty bad rap. Sure, there are the greasy, grimy ones, but we like to think that for every one of those, there's a perfectly cheap travel airlines clean business-friendly one or, even better, an airport hotel with the luxury of an airport view. All this week we'll be taking a look at a few of our favorite hotels for plane spotting .
Full disclosure: Though we haven't yet stayed at the Renaissance, our usual choice of the Sofitel has just been switched thanks to an ad in Airliner World magazine, where the Renaissance advertised cheap travel airlines a Plane Spotter Package . That's right; they know exactly who'll pay good money to hang out at the airport and not be traveling anywhere. This is why they absolutely deserve a nod in our plane spotting series.
From 125 GBP per night ($200) gets you a guest room on the Club Level and the accompanying access cheap travel airlines to the Executive Lounge with its free breakfast, booze and canapes, plus the promise of "Stunning Views of London Heathrow Airport." The package is directly purchasable via the "Packages" tab of the site 's booking engine, after you search dates.
From 90 GBP per night ($145) gets you a regular room with overnight parking and that promised cheap travel airlines airport view. You won't find this lower-priced package on the website, however; to get it call 020 8897 6363 and quote code AW08 and only stay on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night.
Airlines & airplanes spotted: not sure since we've never done it, but we'll venture plenty of British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, plenty of 747s, and plenty international carriers running on to other continents.
