Fairmont has managed the 228-room property since 2002 and had a 20 percent stake in the business. The Toronto-based hotel operator has purchased the rest from Crescent Real Estate Equities, an investment trust that bought the property in 1996.
"With our strong presence in the California market, the historic home of the Fairmont brand, the purchase of the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn is an ideal demonstration of our strategy air plane tickets for2 to california moving forward," Fox said.
The deal does not include Sonoma Golf Club, the nearby golf course and country club that was once part of Sonoma Mission Inn. The golf club is a separate joint venture between Crescent and the Highlands Group, which manages the business.
Sonoma Mission Inn was built in 1927 and features lush gardens, a European-style spa, the Big 3 diner and a Michelin-starred restaurant, Santé. The resort recently renovated 30 luxury suites with mission-style touches such as rustic woods and wrought iron.
The resort is on the site of hot springs originally developed before the Gold Rush. The inn was a U.S. Navy rehabilitation facility during World War II and later served as a training site for sports teams.
