Chad and I had a very interesting/ entertaining weekend. I FINALLY started my second job this week and we were lucky enough to get invited to the Christmas party in Detroit, hawaii travel package MI to meet everyone. We drove to Detroit yesterday (about 3.5 hours) and things were going perfectly until we got into downtown Detroit.
I'm the aggressive driver between the two of us, so when it comes to driving in the city I take control and manage the traffic. I had NO idea what I was getting into when I realized it was a ridiculous maze of one way streets. Not only one way streets, but roundabouts! I missed my turn and the traffic was moving at a rate that good ole Mabel, our Garmin, hawaii travel package had no idea how to "recalculate" fast enough to keep up. After missing our hotel entrance twice and cutting across far too many lanes of traffic, we made it to our hotel and decided it was a good idea to park it and leave it!
The location, although sketchy, was in a really neat area! We were a block from Lions stadium, and we could see Tigers stadium too! We were a little hawaii travel package early so we dropped our bags in our room and went in search of beer. We were going to look for the skating rink/Christmas tree on one of the roundabouts, but I decided it was too sketchy and too far to walk.
The Christmas party social hour started at 5:30 with an open bar. I learned hawaii travel package very quickly that my new co-workers are amazing! They were all very friendly, easy to talk to, and really down to earth. They also know how to party! We took a shuttle to the restaurant for supper hawaii travel package and my boss recommended we all get to-go cups for the ride! Smart man!
Supper was delicious! Again, open bar so we were not lacking in courage to talk and meet new people. Three courses, cookies to go, and full stomachs later we embarked on the ride back to the hotel. The bus was a little small, so the younger hawaii travel package ones in the group all got to sit on their dates laps (this caused even more laughs!)
We all decided to meet in the bar and chat when we got back to the hotel. I voted for jeans and flat boots so we ran upstairs to change and went back to drinking again! Open bar yet again, we sat with my marketing boss and his wife and talked about life. It was so nice to meet such great people and be able to be out socializing! I'm so excited to really get going with the company and take on a new challenge!
Even though we didn't feel so hot Sunday morning, we decided to find Hard Rock Cafe for an early lunch (and get a glass for our collection) and then wander around a bit. We were able to find the Christmas tree and skating rink and decided to head out once it got crowded for the Lions/Colts game!
Next stop? Canada! We both had our passports ready and headed for the tunnel hawaii travel package into Canada. I was very glad we were going out, not coming back into the U.S. at that time because the tunnel was packed for the game! Even though I have a (ridiculous) fear of tunnels, I made it through and we found our way to Club Canadian hawaii travel package to check out the area. We didn't feel up to a tour, but we looked around a bit and then decided it was time to head back. It was really cool to see Detroit from Windsor and to look across the river knowing we were in a different country!
First thing I learned about Canada? I had no idea how fast 50 km/hour is. Also, the distances really screwed with me. We settled on going 30 until we could switch the speedometer on Mabel over to km/hour and turned out we were right! (This is why I love my engineer!) Second thing? It's just different. Stores are different, areas are different, hawaii travel package and finding your way is different.
The trek to the Ambassador bridge isn't nearly as easy as we thought it would be. I went back to driving and Chad navigated and we managed to make it. This was a real panic attack for me. I have a ridiculous fear of bridges (even worse than tunnels). This one was tall. I mean REALLY tall. Chad's advice? "You're doing great, just look straight ahead!" Sadly, this didn't help and by the time we got across the bridge I though I was going to puke/hyperventilate/pass out. Maybe next time Chad should drive?
Customs let us through, although they wondered why someone from Indiana would drive to Canada for only an hour. I explained that we had a Christmas party the night before, or we probably wouldn't have. Yes, I'm blonde. Explain before I'm asked would probably be the best option when someones got your passport and looking suspiciously hawaii travel package at you.
