This is my first message on this site. I am considering going to France (Paris, oahu car rentals Normandy) with a tour group and would like to hear from anyone who has done this. Please advise which tours are best, in your opinion and why. If you're one your own, how do you meet up with the group? oahu car rentals What things should oahu car rentals I avoid in setting up the trip? Thanks! wootz
hi, it isn't clear to me if you are looking for a tour of France that leaves from wherever you live, or if you mean you are going to France and just want a local tour for a day in Normandy or something like that.
Anyway, I haven't taken a tour to France with a group, but when I did take a tour many years ago, the tour booked the air fare (it was a tour through an airline) so they figured out which flights oahu car rentals their people would be on and they had representatives oahu car rentals meeting them at the airport. On another tour, I think if you got there on your own, you were just told to meet up with the group leader oahu car rentals at a certain time at some specified location (which would be the hotel used by the tour).
I think the main issues with tours are just the obvious -- you have to make sure the itinerary is what you want and that you think the price is good value for that, and then make sure you like the hotels they are using and that they are in locations you find acceptable. Sometimes the cheaper tours tend to have you in hotels in suburbs rather than in central city.
Most people on this board prefer independent travel but I will offer a few words of adivce. Avoid Cosmos as they will almost always put you in the suburbs. In fact, most any inexpensive tour will do that. Gate 1 is a little oahu car rentals better about hotel locations, oahu car rentals Globus is expensive but locations will be good.
The benefits oahu car rentals of a tour is that you will see a lot of things in a short period of time. As I mentioned above you will not spend much time in each place but you will at least see it. Another great benefit is that you will make new friends in the group. Since the schedule will be pre-planned you won't have to do much planning oahu car rentals yourself. That is good if you don't like planning, but for some of us the planning is the fun part of the trip.
As P_M said, people who frequent oahu car rentals this board tend to be people who travel independently, but I do have a friend who has traveled with Grand Circle. I received their brochures for a time, and their destinations looked good to me, but I have no idea of specifics.
We have taken two tours, one great, one not. I think we are going to take a garden tour next year so that we can visit gardens that are not normally oahu car rentals open to the public. If the tour is going somewhere you are interested in, it isn't a bad idea.
There is certain oahu car rentals language in tour brochures that you want to watch out for. If it says you will "view" Omaha Beach, that means you will stop at an overlook for a photo op rather than touring the beach.
The big problem with tours is that an advertised 14 day tour has at best 12 days on the ground since they count everything from the day you leave. The second worst problem for me is that the return flights to the US, especially if you are connecting, leave at ungodly early hours. You often miss the breakfast you have paid for because you have to leave the hotel at 4 AM
I have found great info on this board and I'm also going with a 'tour' - but, we will be staying 5 nights in Paris and 3 in Normandy. So the independent oahu car rentals travelers have great info for me to gather. I find just reading the forums gives one LOTS of usable info for those of us on tours. We are given some free time and by researching forums or asking certain questions you may find something wonderful to explore on your own! I hope you enjoy your tour.
I have taken several solo tours. Good advice above avoid Cosmos and budget or cost saving oahu car rentals tours in general oahu car rentals they stay at inferior hotels and have few amenities. oahu car rentals Globus and Trafalgar have solid offerings. I prefer Insight but they are more costly. Tauck and Abercrobie Kent are very expensive, not in my league.
I took a tour of Devon and Cornwall with Trafalgar oahu car rentals last summer after five days in London. This summer oahu car rentals I did a tour of Normandy, Brittany, and Chateau Country with Globus after five days in Paris. I was quite satisfied with both. If you click on my name, you will see (lengthy! trip reports on both.
If you purchase airfare with the company, you will be picked up at the airport and delivered back at the end of your tour generally speaking. You will be dropped off at your hotel- then meet the group for dinner (not always) at around 6 PM.
I think an organized tour is completely appropriate for anybody who is really worried about traveling independently or for someone who wants to see less accessible sites when renting a car is not an option. (I would imagine that the mention of Normandy concerns some of the WW2 sites which you really can't see easily oahu car rentals without having your own transportation.)
However, I totally hope that anybody taking such a tour manages to notice -- at least in the cities -- how easy it would be to do it all yourself at greatly reduced rates. And then you can return in the future and have a great time at your own rhythm.
We booked our own flights for a Globus tour in Italy a couple of years ago, but were able to add on the airport transfers from them for around $50-$60 total per person. Not sure if they offer that option on all tours but it was very convenient, especially since we had to catch an early morning return flight.
oahu car rentals Thanks for all the great information! If anyone could comment on Globus, oahu car rentals Trafalgar, or any other tour companies, I would appreciate hearing about them. I have a question about meeting oahu car rentals up with the group. Do we all take the same flight to Paris (which is what I'm hoping) and do we exchange cell phone numbers and emails prior to the trip? Thanks!
The entire tour does not take the same flight as you won't all be originating from the same place. You meet at the hotel at a welcome drink/dinner or orientation meeting. The meeting information will be in the packet you get from the tour company after you book. A couple of times I met people from the same tour at the airport gate on a connecting flight.
It's up to the tour company to share personal oahu car rentals information. The tours I've taken have given people's names and city and state. No other personal information was shared. I certainly would not give 50 people my cell phone number. Contact your tour company if you want to share this information and it's up to them to give it out. They should not be giving you any personal information on other people. I've never felt the need to contact other people on my tour prior to being on the tour.
I've taken Globus tours and think they are low end. I did the Loire Valley and D Day Beaches. The tour guide was not good and there was lots of time on the bus and lots of one night stays. The hotels were not centrally located so you were stuck in the hotel in the evening unless you arranged for a taxi to take you into town. A friend took a Danube barging trip with Globus and had the same opinion of her tour guide as I did - not knowledgeable.
No, you don't all take the same flight. For our Globus Italy tour they instructed us to look for a small booth with a Globus sign after exiting baggage oahu car rentals claim. A person at the booth led us out to one of their buses which took us to the hotel where our tour guide was waiting in the lobby. The tour company should explain all the logistics to you.
