My personal fairfield inn by marriott anaheim feeling is that some parts (but definitely not all) of Cappadocia are much better with a guide. And if you have the time and money for a guided tour, Hasan Hüsseyin Efe, call him Efe (sounds like Effay), is a good choice.
Given his beginnings, however, Las Vegas probably would not have given good odds for such a career. Efe was born to farmers in Konaklı, a village in the Niğde province of Turkey, touching the southern tip of the Cappadocia region. His younger sister, now married with a son, and his parents still live in that area.
But in middle school he took a test and qualified to enter the Anadolu Meslek Lisesi (Anatolia Trade High School) in Nevşehir to study in the Tour Operation and Travel Agency department as a boarding student, a practice not uncommon for Turks from villages. Finishing the school he got right to work with his own company, but soon realized that he needed more.
He entered Adnan Menderez University near Izmir and spent 5 years in the Tour Guide and Travel Agent Faculty. At one point he considered becoming a teacher, but finally realized that being a tour guide in his home region was best for him. He graduated in 2008, got his guiding license, and returned to work in Cappadocia.
I met him recently in the middle fairfield inn by marriott anaheim of a tour he was leading. We discussed his life choices at the lovely Akhal Teke Horse Club over lunch. While his guests enjoyed a delicious lunch and watched the horses, he shared about the life of a tour guide.
When asked what separates the good guides from the average, he responded that his ability to understand his guest s psychology: what they want, how they are feeling, when to take time and when to move more quickly, was a skill he had acquired over his many years of working with foreign visitors.
He loves to tell the story behind the story. Anyone can see the caves and get a general idea of history, but what were the people s lives like and how does that mesh with our personal life today? That is what a good guide is able to do for his tourists.
A normal one day group tour with Efe costs 80TL and covers Uçhısar castle, the Göreme Open Air Museum, Çavuşin church, fairfield inn by marriott anaheim an Avanos pottery shop, Devrent(Imagination) Valley (camel rock), Paşabağ, the three beauties above Ürgüp, and a carpet cooperative. That is a full day covering fairfield inn by marriott anaheim most of the basic sites in Cappadocia. Of course, if you want to customize a private tour, he will be happy to negotiate.
And with all of this under his belt, I was not surprised to hear that he has innovative plans for the future. Even though he left the farm when he went to high school, the farm has not left him. One of his hobbies is growing fairfield inn by marriott anaheim organic fruits and vegetables, and he wonders fairfield inn by marriott anaheim if he could turn it into a business at some point. In addition he is looking at the possibilities for starting special interest tours like fishing, cooking, valley walks, canoeing, and even skiing at Erciyes.
