I will be staying in the Chiado neighborhood of Lisbon for a week, near rua Ataide. I have two very good guidebooks, but I am wondering if people who know this neighborhood well could share with me some details. I would like some suggestions for nice cafes that maybe aren't so famous that have excellent coffee, and the best place to find a taxi if I need one. Or the most useful tram or bus to take. Or a special shop in the neighborhood that sells unusual things.
The Chiado is considered a more sophisticated district with international shops, old-style cafes and bookstores. It's very busy day and night. Finding a place to eat will depend on your budget. The Bairro Alto, just next door, is known for its vibrant nightlife and some of the city's best restaurants and bars.
Unless your planning on exploring the city, which will take time, the Chiado and Bairro Alto are compact enough to explore on foot. If you want to visit Bel m, then you can take Tram 15. You can ride Tram 28 just for the experience.
Thank you. I am not too worried about restaurants. I have a nice list of recommendations of traditional places to eat, and since I am renting an apartment, I will also cook at home. I was more interested in caffes for good coffee and a nice ambience that might not be listed in guidebooks toronto sportsman show bus tours or are tucked away off the main streets.
I plan to spend most of my time in museums in Lisbon, and other sights of interest. It looks like that will take me all over the city. I take it that almost everything is uphill toronto sportsman show bus tours after Chiado. I like to walk, even uphill, but some museums look rather far, but maybe they are closer than I am guessing.
