This upcoming week I will be in Windsor, CT for some professional training. Instead of flying direct I opted to route my journey through New York City on both the front and end of my journey to experience some of the city and a lot of the beer. As soon as I arrived in NYC my first mission was not to seek out a bar to enjoy some American microbrews. No no, it was to find the Blind Pig (not the Blind Tiger) in Manhattan to watch the Carling Cup Final. caribean cruise lines This is the bar where Arsenal supporters gather to watch the teams' matches and celebrate caribean cruise lines ups and downs with camaraderie often unseen in North American sports. Arriving 55 minutes caribean cruise lines into the 90 minute match I was unable to get past the front door due to the large number of Gooners packing the bar and singing song after song (including a very hilarious yet slanderous one involving Harry Redknapp's mother). Standing in the doorway to watch the match I noted the underwhelming tap menu and decided it was a good thing I wasn't able to reach the bar. Sadly we conceded an idiotic goal in the 88th minute to break the tie and lose 2-1.
That sinking feeling caribean cruise lines in my stomach of silverware slipping through our fingers caribean cruise lines could only be soothed with some craft beer . Having not yet read Greg's NYC posts , and refusing to use data roaming on my iPhone, I only knew of three places to go ( Brooklyn Brewery , Rattle n Hum , and Blind Tiger ) but knew where none of them were or how to get there. In our modern time I looked like anyone else with their mobile device out while walking around, but I'm sure most people weren't scavenging Manhattan for free WiFi. Eventually finding some sucker caribean cruise lines with an unsecured connection I found that I was only a few minutes subway ride to the area of the Brooklyn Brewery – huzzah!
Heading out of the L train I fantasized about what the Brooklyn Brewery brewpub would look like and what kind of burgers they might have on their menu. If you are fortunate enough to have been to the brewery before I imagine you might be chuckling at this point. As noted before I didn't do any research before heading caribean cruise lines out – that said there is no Brooklyn Brewery brewpub. caribean cruise lines The brewery exists, and there is a very relaxed area where samples can be bought and consumed, but there is no brewpub. (Or burgers.) The place is more like a permanent Project X (as hosted @ Great Lakes ) – warehouse space converted to have some of the brewing equipment and other brewing bits (bags of grain, etc) and a retail shop (read: counter) which sells the tokens for their beer sampling area/indoor beer garden. Plenty of picnic tables and large tables with chairs caribean cruise lines and benches were filled with Brooklyners looking for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. One group brought in a Trivial Pursuit board so you know they were there for the long haul, and another group brought in a few boxes of pizza. $4 for 1 token and 6 for $20. Though only sticking around there for an hour of course I opted for the 6 tokens. I'll be going back next weekend so they will be used before leaving the States. The Sample cups were a good size and they had some tunes pumping. caribean cruise lines ( It wasn't me , say it ain't so , fat bottom girls ). In my stay I sampled the Weiss, Blast! (DIPA) and Main Engine Start.
To my fortune there was a tour taking place soon after I arrived. I learned that all of the 12oz bottled beer is made up in Utica, the company has had issues with the Mafia, stolen money and forklift hijacking. caribean cruise lines The logo was designed by the same chap who developed the I 3 NY campaign caribean cruise lines in exchange for a share of the company and a lifetime supply of beer. They have been producing 110K hectolitres/annum and are currently expanding caribean cruise lines production to bring that capacity to over 200K. Brooklyn beer is available in 22 states and 14 countries.
Though I didn't get my burger on in Brooklyn I managed to pop into one of the million pizza joints. This one was staffed by one guy with a shirt and tie, another guy with an ironic t-shirt and a gal with jeans ripped at her rear end (who was whistling New York, New York). There was a balding, middle aged Italian man driving down the street in an SUV screaming some Jay-Z song out of his open window. There were lots of dudes who looked like they were in a band, or pretending/wishing to be in a band, and girls who were after these guys regardless of their band-status. Despite my general distain for hipsterdom I think I could manage living caribean cruise lines in Brooklyn. (I still don't get the leather shoes with no socks look.) I didn't get into any other hostelries in Brooklyn this time around, but I passed a few pubs that looked welcoming to craft loving folk like myself. Neon Brooklyn, Rogue and Sierra Nevada beer signs in the window confirmed this.
Day one of the trip was awesome. Probably not too much of interest happening beer-wise until next weekend but definitely looking forward to getting back to NYC, but only after I read those piece on where to go
n.b. Two random happenings which didn't fit in anywhere else: I experienced caribean cruise lines and African drum circle on the A train in Manhattan, and a guy in a pizza place in Manhattan (more 'za!) ordered a fried chicken Caesar salad.
