One of the things that Vegas is associated with are so-called tribute shows featuring Elvis impersonators etc. I have been wary of these shows, foolishly thinking that that just can t be any good. What actor or actress would want to devote his or her career to pretending to be someone famous? Again, I wasn t thinking it through. Any acting job is an impersonation, made doubly difficult if the subject is recognizable and famous.
I recently saw a show called American Superstars at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. They have a roster of entertainers but the night I saw the show the tribute performers were to Elvis, Britney Spears, Rod Stewart, Charlie Daniels, and Michael Jackson with backup by the Superstar Dance Band (terrific musicians and very high energy), and the beautiful Superstar Dancers.
All the performers gave good approximations of the artist they were paying tribute hawaii military discount car rental to, but my favorites were Charlie Daniels (playing one hell of a fiddle), Elvis (the winner of the Elvis impersonator contest in Memphis who not only matched the moves but also the voice and attitude), and most of all Corey Melton as Michael Jackson. While his vocals weren t exactly the same as Michael s, his moves and his I love the world attitude were down pat. The audience loved Melton and he presented a nice dedication to Michael at the end of the show along with all the other performers.
