On Hawaii Island , the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort Spa is seven months into a $16-million resort renewal, which is expected to be completed in late summer. Enhancements to guest rooms, public areas and meeting spaces are being guided by local designer Sig Zane . New oceanfront dining concepts will include Rays on the Bay opening September 9. With panoramic oceanfront sunset dinners Rays on the Bay will highlight chef-prepared dishes focusing on farm- and ocean-to-table cuisine. Rays on the Bay will also be home to a Rum Bar, nightly entertainment and social gatherings around fire pits. Notably, it will become the only restaurant in the world where diners can view manta ray that gather to feed most evenings just offshore. Upon completion, the renovated resort will be named as Sheraton Kona Resort Spa at Keauhou Bay . Improvements will include: *A refurbished port cochere, and the Silversword lobby bar which will host daily Sheraton Social Hour wine tastings *Flying Fish retail and guest activity center, which will be the portal for access to experiential island activities *Ainakai bay view breakfast service daily. (The improved space becomes available for afternoon and evening social gatherings, wedding receptions, meetings and group functions.) *The addition of 10 new guest suites (for a total of 20) *Improved meeting space, with updated A/V equipment and new seating To reintroduce Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort Spa to visitors, the resort is offering a renewal special of $129 (Mountain View) room per night for bookings made August 4 through September 30 for stays August mirage hotel and casino 4 through March 31, 2013. This represents a savings of at least 25 percent per stay. Blackout dates apply and the offer is subject to availability.
