We woke up this morning to rain and 48 degrees. It kept raining all day, although at all of our breaks we stayed dry (partly because the driver got really close to entrances). After only 12 miles in W VA, we drove the rest of the day in Pennsylvania. These Appalachian Mountains are forested, and the highest summit was just over 2,100 feet. We saw snowbirds on many homes, little metal pieces along edges of roofs that hold the snow back, allowing it to melt without coming down on people below. We also saw two covered bridges on small side roads. Our day ended in Gettysburg where we stopped at the Peace Monument. The eternal flame was dedicated 75 years after the end of the three day battle, and 2,000 veterans attended.
