DETROIT The trial for a former Southgate police cruise line ratings officer accused of sexually assaulting an exotic dancer last year is set to begin tomorrow in Wayne County Circuit Court. Emmanuel Paravas, 44, is accused of assaulting a woman while on duty after he had helped her two hours before. The woman, a Pennsylvania resident, was in town to perform at Subi s Place, a strip club at 12916 North Line Road. The alleged incident occurred at about 3 a.m. Feb. 9, 2011, at Holiday Inn Southgate Banquet Conference Center, 17201 North Line Road, according to testimony at a preliminary examination of the evidence against Paravas. Two hours earlier, the officer cruise line ratings responded to a domestic violence call at La Quinta Inn, 12888 Reeck Road, between the woman, who allegedly was drunk and slurring her words, and her husband. Hotel employees called police after numerous disturbances cruise line ratings involving the couple.
Paravas took the woman to Holiday Inn to separate the couple and keep them from arguing further. Her husband testified in 28th District Court that he told Paravas that when his wife gets that drunk, she blacks out and doesn t remember anything. The woman testified that at about 3 a.m., Paravas came to her room at Holiday Inn, set his gun on the dresser, handcuffed her and sexually assaulted her. She said Paravas told her, Wise up or I m taking you to jail. She said she was afraid and didn t try to fight him. The couple cruise line ratings did not file a police report until a few days later after they had returned cruise line ratings to Pennsylvania because she still had to perform at Subi s under contract cruise line ratings over the following three days. Paravas was charged cruise line ratings with third-degree criminal cruise line ratings sexual cruise line ratings conduct, punishable by up to 15 years in prison; misconduct in office, up to five years in prison; and neglect of duty, up to a one-year sentence.
