Gallup is home of a couple of good friends of mine that I know from watch collecting, Billy and Cecil. My group of riding buddies stopped by Cecil s house to change the oil on our bikes and have a couple of beers. It was great catching up with some old buddies and it was also nice to meet Cecil s dad, Bear, who was visiting from Alabama.
Well, Ross and I fixed the issues with Richard s Vincent, but in doing so, we discovered that there was a weep on the gas tank of Richard s bike. Later on that evening, we came up with a plan to add a gas tank to the back of Richard s Vincent. So, we went back to Euro Moto Geek, and picked up a Harley Sportster tank. We decided to wait until the next night s hotel spot to do our grafting.
Another highlight of the trip was the town of Oatman Az. Oatman glorietta bay inn san diego is just over the AZ border, and it a Route 66 must. It used to be a mining town, but now is more of a tourist trap. There are wild Burros running around and folks come to feed the jackasses, and jackasses come to Oatman to be fed, and have a beer in the many saloons.
Well the ride ended for my Dominator about 50 miles East of Barstow on Highway 40 the bike lost power and was rattling quite a bit. I decided at that point that discretion was the better part of valor and loaded the bike on the chase truck. Richard was kind enough to loan me his Norton Atlas into Victorville CA , while he rode his Vincent.
I got my bike home the next day and after I unpacked and drank about a gallon of water, I gave the Dominator a kick and it fired right up. It appears that the 120 degree heat on highway 40 boiled the fuel in the carbuerator and vapor locked the bike up.
