we left ft myers and flew to portland. from one side of the country to the other! our flight ended up being delayed {thanks, hurricane} , no really- thanks hurricane! we were able to cancel our hotel for portland because we weren't supposed to get in until 11 or 12pm and we got a free hotel in Dallas. AND we got free dinner and breakfast. AND it split up the flights for our fellow passengers. i would say for ike, but he wouldn't really care that he is bothering people when he gets cranky.
my uncle made sure we had a bon fire on the beach. the boys went out and gathered huge pieces drift wood- the size of tree logs- and stacked them up all boy scout like. this fire was taller than james! {he's 6'3''} it's always been a dream of ours to have a fire on the beach. it was such an awesome moment. oregon is so cool.
our first day in oregon was a success. the driving was long but gorgeous, and the scenery made it worth it. our God is so big. we felt so small knowing this a just a spec of what he has created. and this tiny spec was so vast we couldn't even see it all. i remember telling my eyes to remember everything and to make sure they saw it all, and to look harder so I could keep it locked away for later. our only regret in making this trip is that ike won't be able to remember it. hopefully one day he can make this trip with us again.
the oregon coast really is something else isn t it? i grew up going to california beaches every summer, but i love the rocky cool beaches with huge driftwood in the NW too. and you re right, God is good! i m constantly amazed at what a beautiful world we live in because of him. :)
