The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is draining a fishing pond in the Washington County community of Brownsville to prevent a dam failure. The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reported that the earthen dam had eroded and was in danger of collapsing. Inland fisheries director Don Cosden said most of the water has been removed from the nearly 1-acre pond, and the fish have been relocated. Cosden said fixing the dam could cost $100,000 to $150,000, and there is no money currently available for repairs.

The purchase price was approximately $6.7 million. The seller was not identified.
